.FR domain TLD is the Country code TLD for France and is regulated by the AFNIC Registry. Apart from common domain registration requirements, it has certain regulation which is required if you are registering, transferring, renewing, or deleting .DE domain.

Rules and Requirements – .FR Domain Policy:

Registration:

1. Register the domain accepting the terms and condition along with address reside in the territory of a member state of the European Union or one of the following: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

The registrant must keep their contact details (name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number) up-to-date to avoid registration termination.

Organization
 The following fields are optional; however, we strongly recommend that you complete them, as this information helps the registry to validate the registration.

    • 1. VAT Number—The Value Added Tax (VAT) number of the organization.
    • 2. Trademark Number—The organization’s trademark registration number.
    • 3. SIREN/SIRET Number—The nine-digit SIREN code or the 14-digit SIRET code is used to identify the business for tax reasons. For organizations in France, please include this number to avoid validation issues with the registry.

 

Acceptable Syntax/Characters are listed below:

  • Latin characters, except for numbers and special characters
  • Hyphens
  • Apostrophes
  • Spaces

NOTE: The FR registry does not operate as a fully synchronous registry.  As such, the processing of some registrations takes time.  There can be delays of 10-30 minutes for the registration process in some cases. 

 

2. Registry regularly reviews Whois information for each domain you register and will send an email to the registrant’s email address to confirm its accuracy if it is suspected to be inaccurate. Failure to confirm might lead to suspension of domains.

3. Once you register, the registry might request for “official identification documents” through registered mail id to acquire full enjoyment of the domain.

3. You can also register the below TLD if you wish to target specific region:

.fr (mainland France and Corsica), .re (Réunion), .yt (Mayotte), .pm (Saint Pierre and Miquelon), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Lands).

4. You can register IDN domain name in the below languages only with certain character.

Nameserver Requirement:

There are no restriction in updating the nameservers or have any specific requirements to be assigned for the domain.

Renewal:

1. You can do explicit renewal for the .FR Domain but better to be done at least 60 days before the expiry date.

2. If the domain isn’t renewed before the expiry date, it directly goes into the redemption period with an added cost for renewal and redemption charges.

 

Transfer:

1. You can transfer the .FR Domain at anytime which doesn’t have the 60 day lock period.

2. Transfers and ownership changes must be processed separately.  The change of ownership must be initiated after the transfer has been completed.

3. Authentication/EPP codes expire after each new mail request or within a limited time.

4. Once domain is transferred, the registration period will start from transfer date.

Note: Please make sure to provide accurate contact information and a valid EPP code, and verify with the latest received transfer approval email to avoid domain termination.

 

Deletion:

1. If the domain is not renewed, it will automatically cancelled and available for registering again.

2. For immediate domain deletion, please contact us within 3 days of registering the domain.
